To date, Ukrainian books have had a rather modest presence on Spanish-speaking markets. There are many reasons for this, as well as the historical context. The past, as we know, cannot be changed; however, when carefully analysed and thoroughly studied, it provides a solid foundation for the future. The participants in the round-table discussion will speak about the continuity of the translation tradition between Spanish, Catalan and Ukrainian, outline the current situation with its challenges and unresolved issues, and discuss a shared and effective future for Ukrainian literature translated into the languages of the Iberian Peninsula.

Presentation of the books Ayakuna: Visions of the Soul and Sebastián: The Spirits of the Incas, inspired by decades of research and fieldwork in the Amazon and the Andes. This session will explore ancestral memory, the relationship between humanity and nature, and the value of cultural traditions as a bridge for contemporary intercultural dialogue.

Colombian-Peruvian writer Mary Luz Henao Navarro talks with Marco García Falcón, winner of Peru’s National Literature Prize, about the craft of transforming memory into fiction. Drawing on Alba Luz y la sombra del Tatamá and Ikumi, 1999, they will discuss territory, characters, female voices, and some of the decisions that take place behind the writing of a novel.
