Ukrainian Books in Spain: Translations, Collaborations, and New Horizons

2026-09-30 17:30 2026-09-30 17:55 Europe/Madrid Ukrainian Books in Spain: Translations, Collaborations, and New Horizons

To date, Ukrainian books have had a rather modest presence on Spanish-speaking markets. There are many reasons for this, as well as the historical context. The past, as we know, cannot be changed; however, when carefully analysed and thoroughly studied, it provides a solid foundation for the future. The participants in the round-table discussion will speak about the continuity of the translation tradition between Spanish, Catalan and Ukrainian, outline the current situation with its challenges and unresolved issues, and discuss a shared and effective future for Ukrainian literature translated into the languages of the Iberian Peninsula.

Memory Has a Landscape: Childhood, Women, and Territory in the Creation of a Novel

2026-10-01 10:00 2026-10-01 10:50 Europe/Madrid Memory Has a Landscape: Childhood, Women, and Territory in the Creation of a Novel

Where does a novel come from? How do our memories, childhood recollections, the places we inhabit, and the stories we hear find their way into fiction? Colombian-Peruvian writer Mary Luz Henao Navarro talks with Marco García Falcón, winner of Peru’s National Literature Prize, about the craft of transforming memory into fiction. Drawing on Alba Luz y la sombra del Tatamá and Ikumi, 1999, they will discuss territory, characters, female voices, and some of the decisions that take place behind the writing of a novel.
